Tortuguero

Tortuguero is a magical place on the Caribbean side of the country where you will see animals and sights that you can see nowhere else! With no road access, this area is an untouched natural beauty!

Day #1 – LET THE FUN BEGIN! Enjoy the stunning landscapes of Tortuguero on this engaging tour starting with your pickup at 7:00am. First stop of the day will be a delicious breakfast, then embark on the journey to Tortuguero. Along the way we will make some fun stops including bird watching and lunch at Guarumo Lodge. Once we arrive, we will travel by boat, as there is no land access, to finish our journey to the hotel. We check-in and then you have some free time to enjoy a nice dinner and get familiar with the landscape.

Day #2 – DISCOVER THE VILLAGE! Today you will embark on a hike of the Tortuguero Hill! This is an invigorating hike to the highest point in the park. The ascent through the lush rainforest offers incredible views of Tortuguero’s canals and the distant Caribbean Sea. Once at the top, you’ll be treated to breathtaking 360-degree vistas—a perfect moment for photos and reflection. This trek is a rewarding way to connect with the park’s natural beauty, and your guide will share insights about its volcanic history and diverse ecosystems.

Finally, as night falls, the Night Walk offers a completely different experience. The rainforest comes alive with nocturnal creatures, and the darkness holds the promise of new discoveries. Your guide will lead you on a path illuminated by your flashlight, revealing the glowing eyes of tree frogs, camouflaged insects, and the occasional owl perched in the trees. The sounds of crickets, rustling leaves, and distant howler monkeys add to the enchantment of the jungle at night.

Day #3 – EXPLORE THE JUNGLE! Start the day with an early morning canoe tour. A tranquil yet thrilling way to explore this lush tropical haven. Leave the hum of motorboats behind as you paddle quietly through a labyrinth of winding canals, where every turn reveals nature's secrets. Known as the "Amazon of Central America," Tortuguero's waterways are alive with incredible biodiversity, offering a front-row seat to the wonders of Costa Rica's rainforests.

In the afternoon, we will have an amazing hike through the jungle on the magnificent Jaguar Trail. Named after the elusive and majestic jaguar, this trail is your chance to explore the natural habitat of this apex predator. While sightings of the big cat are rare (and thrilling!), the trail offers plenty of opportunities to encounter other incredible wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for playful howler monkeys swinging through the canopy, vibrantly colored toucans and macaws perched high above, and camouflaged tree frogs hiding in plain sight. The trail also weaves past nesting sites of sea turtles, particularly during nesting season (July to October), when these ancient mariners come ashore to lay their eggs.

Day #4 - JOURNEY HOME! Sadly, we embark on our journey home today, but only after our nutricious breakfast. Hop on the boat across the river where our comfortable van will be waiting to take you back. Our tour guide and driver will be making stops along the way so the fun doesn't stop. Lunch is included in this stop.
